The 4th OHDSI European Symposium was held July 1-3 2023 in Rotterdam, with the title “Full steam ahead”.
More than 350 collaborators gathered together during these 3 days, coming from all over the planet, and almost half of them being new to OHDSI, which proves the real uptake that OMOP is having in the Real World Data space.

Carlos Díaz, CEO of Synapse, presented the EHDEN project and its main accomplishments:

  • Over 70 methodological and scientific publications
  • Portal & network dashboard
  • Evidence generation activities
  • EHDEN Academy
  • EHDEN Foundation

During the Symposium, the Data Analysis and Real World Interrogation Network (DARWIN EU®) had a dedicated session in which several members of DARWIN EU® showed a number of software applications contributing to the better implementation of studies in this initiative. The active role that Synapse has in DARWIN EU® in driving the management pillar of the initiative was highlighted.

The EMA presented on their strategy on the use of Real-World Evidence in Medicines Regulation. One of the expectations is that by 2025, the use of Real-World Evidence (RWE) will have been enabled and the value will have been established across the spectrum of regulatory use cases.

During the Symposium, a networking lunch with EHDEN Data Partners and certified SME took place. This was an excellent opportunity to meet with the members of the EHDEN network who joined the event and the EHDEN Community manager.  Additionally, a number of videos from several members of the community were recorded during these days.

The EHDEN stand also had a predominant role during the collaborator showcase, in which 89 posters were displayed, receiving a high number of interested parties in the work of EHDEN and its future.

An important activity shared during the Symposium was the rise of the OHDSI national nodes, which have been triggered thanks to EHDEN contribution. The Symposium made clear that there is a great journey ahead, and that the community is really active, proven by all the work which is being done.

Synapse contribution in this domain was made clear by the number of interactions held during the full Symposium.
